| Including the distance from the parking lot
(first lot on right as you approach Rattlesnake Lake) this is actually
closer to 2 miles.
This loop starts from the road in front of the little parking lot. From the parking lot head north (left) on Cedar Falls Rd. After about .25 mile you'll see a pullout and gate on the left, or west, side of the road. Go around the gate. You can run this loop either clockwise or counter-clockwise - it's up to you! For clockwise just keep going up the dirt road past the gate. You'll pass the first pump house almost immediately on your right. The road starts gaining elevation gradually, and after another few hundred yards you'll see the other pump house in the borrow pit on your right. These pump houses pull water from wells to feed the Wilderness Rim community. Just past this stay right at the fork. If you go left you'll end up at a junction with the Rattlesnake Ledge trail. Keep on the trail for another .25 mile or more. You'll see houses and another fork in the road. For the loop turn right here and follow the trail along a fence line down hill until you come to the fence line at Cedar Falls road. Stay right back to the start (gate). If you want a good hill repetition workout instead of the last right turn - stay left! The path starts out mildly up hill, then gets rapidly steeper as you approach the water tower at the top. Repeat until your legs or lungs fail! |
